Overview

As you look to grow your automation adoption beyond one team, your organization will need to develop new roles and skills and train existing employees on automation.

According to a survey of technology professionals worldwide, training in-house employees remains the most popular way for companies to fill technology skills gaps.

Automation is often misunderstood and has limited or stalled progress for many organizations. Enterprise automation is transformative rather than a simple replacement of manual tasks. The best solution is education. The key is in ways/strategies to educate people to understand automation better and learn how to best use it. To that end, the people/stakeholders within your organization (including executive leaders, employees, and partners) are fundamental to successfully adopting, implementing, and scaling automation.

Setting up your automation practice for success requires developing an education strategy to build the necessary roles and skills across your organization. A deliberate, multi-pronged approach will ensure your organization can meet its skills demand at each stage of the adoption journey.

You can develop your education strategy by following these five steps:

  1. Assess the readiness of current governance processes, security policies, and compliance needs to onboard different teams with diverse personas on the platform.
  2. Identify automation skills that are needed and select target roles. Develop role-based training plans by assessing each individual's proficiency level against the required skills and identifying learning needs.
  3. Invest in formal learning/training and certification programs to enable learners to get on board and train effectively.
Reinforce learning by providing an opportunity to apply skills into practice through hands-on projects.
  4. Incentivize the learning through various rewards and recognition programs, leading to sustained behavior change that positively impacts an organization.
